When perusing the many online groups for communities of South Africans abroad, it soon becomes clear that the one single biggest problem for SA Expats (SAFFAs), or just those visiting or travelling abroad, is getting Documentation or Identification from SA Embassies (DIRCO) or even Home Affairs back home! In many cases this documentation is vital in order to travel or remain legally abroad. Yes, we all know, and joke, that South Africa is now a barely functioning failed state, but to be told in an official communication by an SA Embassy, that you would have to wait up to THREE YEARS for a birth certificate, is, to put it bluntly, criminal! The Embassy even went so far as to recommend asking family back home to do it for you! Remind us again why we have a “government” and pay taxes?

Ukrainian Tourist murdered and robbed while hiking in SA in broad daylight for his backpack on Chapman’s Peak scenic trail
A Ukrainian tourist was stabbed to death for his backpack on a scenic Hout Bay trail on Saturday morning.
Ivan Ivanov, 44, was attacked about 10m from the trail exit at East Fort on Chapman’s Peak Drive around 11.30am.

So you need to pack? Here are a few handy tips to make sure your trip is a success
Do you find yourself thinking for days on end about things you will need on the trip and telling yourself “I must remember to pack that”? Have you arrived and discovered “oops I should have packed that”? There is a simple solution and it works, especially if it’s keeping you up at night before the trip – write it down. Yes, make a list, add to it whenever you have an idea that I must pack this, and take it with you. When you get there and think I should have, add it to that list and keep it in one of those pockets in your favourite bag or case so next time, you won’t forget. When you are doing that last-minute dash instead of running around in circles you can check your list and feel far more at ease and only have to deal with the excitement or nerves of the trip itself.

Russian Delegation Headed to South Africa to Discuss Resettlement Plan with Oppressed Boers Seeking Asylum (Video)
A Russian delegation is due to come to South Africa to work out a more detailed resettlement plan with the Boer community.
